Calling MISS DIG 811 before you dig protects you, your neighbors, and your contractors from damaged underground utility lines. No matter who completes the work, you are responsible for making sure that the underground utilities on your property are clearly marked. It’s the law.
MISS DIG is a free national program that coordinates underground utility locating for property owners. MISS DIG works with utility companies like Holland BPW to mark underground water mains, electric lines, natural gas lines, and more with utility flags or spray paint. Use MISS DIG’s online system or call 811 any time to make a locate request.

RED: Electric
YELLOW: Gas, Oil, Steam, or Petroleum
ORANGE: Communications Systems
BLUE: Potable Water
PURPLE: Reclaimed Water Irrigation
GREEN: Sewer and Drain Lines
WHITE: Proposed Excavation
PINK: Temporary Surveying
If the flags are accidentally removed, call the MISS DIG System at 811 or 800-482-7171, or the contractor you have hired to do the work if they called MISS DIG 811 to have the flags placed, and indicate that you need the utility lines in your yard marked again.

Why are There Flags on My Property?
Companies may call in requests for MISS DIG when they plan construction work on or near your property. Even if you did not call in the locate request, these flags provide important information for workers who will be digging in the vicinity.
