What Is Renewable Energy?
Renewable energy is electricity that comes from sources that produce little or no emissions by using resources that replenish themselves naturally, such as wind, sunlight, biomass (agricultural waste), geothermal (the Earth's heat), waves and landfill gas.
How Does It Work?
15% of the energy you receive from Holland BPW comes from renewable sources. You also have the option to purchase more renewable energy from HBPW. Electing 85% more will get you to 100% renewable energy!
- Purchase more renewable energy in five (5) percent increments of monthly consumption at the cost of $0.01 premium per kWh.

Yes! Renewable energy has been a part of our portfolio since 2008, even before it was state mandated. Our current portfolio includes solar power, wind power and landfill gas. Holland BPW continues to expand commitments in renewable energy.
Holland BPW has renewable energy (RE) credits acquired through power purchase agreements with Wildcat Wind Farm I, Beebe 1B Wind Farm, Pegasus Wind Farm, Assembly I Solar, North American Natural Resources (landfill gas) and Energy Developments (landfill gas).
15% of the electricity we provide comes from renewable sources. Holland BPW customers have the option to elect additional amounts of renewable energy by signing up for the Renewable Energy Rate.

The Elective Renewable Energy rate gives you the option of having part or all of your electricity come from renewable sources.
The program requires a 12 month commitment. Customers who choose the Elective Renewable Energy Rate must stay enrolled in the program for 12 months.

When you choose Elective Renewable Energy, you'll pay your normal rate for electricity plus a small premium of $0.01/kWh. You'll see this participation premium reflected as an additional line item on your regular monthly billing statement, which will read Elective Renewable Energy.

It is your choice! You can get all of your energy from renewable sources with the Elective Renewable Energy Rate. Or you can choose a different amount.
Since 15% of your energy already comes from renewable sources, the maximum percentage you can elect is 85% (because 15% + 85% = 100%). The amount of your electricity that comes from renewables can be added in five percent (5%) increments of your monthly usage.
Your participation cost will fluctuate based on the number of kilowatt-hours of electricity you use in a given month.

When Holland BPW purchases renewable energy it receives renewable energy credits (RECs) that are certified and overseen by a third party. The Michigan Renewable Energy Certification System (MIRECS) issues, tracks, and enables retirement of the credits to ensure that no two customers pay for the same unit of renewable energy.

Renewable energy costs more than traditional power generation. The premium you pay is the cost difference.

Yes! The reliability of your electric service will not change. The renewable energy purchased for the program is supplemented by electricity from other traditional sources.

Enrolling is easy. Simply fill out the Elective Renewable Energy application form and follow the submission instructions listed on the application.

You may enroll in the Elective Renewable Energy rate at any time. Participation in the program continues for a minimum of 12 months.
