SANITARY SEWER COLLECTION SYSTEM

The Water/Wastewater Services Group maintains the entire sanitary sewer collection system south of Lake Macatawa and the Black River.  The over 180 miles of sanitary sewer main and 36 sewage lift stations are located mostly within the City of Holland with some sections of Park, Laketown, Holland, and Fillmore townships included.  The majority of the sanitary sewer is 8 inches in diameter with some as large as 36 inches in diameter.

For Site Plan Reviews and Approvals, please refer to our Guide.  For developments within the City of Holland, Site Plan Reviews should be submitted to the City’s Planning Department.  For developments outside the City of Holland, consult with the local township office.

Many homes in our service area were built using Orangeburg pipe for a sanitary sewer service.  Due to the fact that most of these pipes are well beyond their useful life, we recommend removing and replacing these pipes with a pipe of a material that meets with local building codes.  An informative article about Orangeburg pipe can be found here (from www.sewerhistory.org).
