Tree Trimming

We love trees, but…

Misplaced or improperly maintained trees often cause power outages during severe weather and can be dangerous when branches come in contact with power lines. Prevention is the key, and that is why the Holland Board of Public Works has a comprehensive line-clearing program. We work year-round to prevent existing trees from causing outages or danger to homeowners.

The HBPW has signed a 3-year tree trimming contract with Integrity Tree Service. The contract is for three years starting January 1, 2006 and ending December 31, 2008. Their working hours are from 7:30AM until 4:00PM.

The BPW electric service area covers 42.75 square miles totalling approximately 405 miles of primary lines. We estimate that it will take 3 years for our whole system to be properly trimmed. Tree trimming is done by circuit and area. It is a preventative measure that we take in order to prevent significant outages due to tree problems. There are minimum clearance requirements that we must follow based on the voltage of the line. Our tree trimmers do their best to trim only what is necessary.

If you have a problem/complaint or need to speak with someone regarding tree trimming, or if you have a request for tree trimming, please call Dawn Deephouse in the Electric Department at 355-1603, between the hours of 7:30AM and 4:00PM.
