Beginnings. . .

Established as a community-owned utility over 100 years ago, the Holland Board of Public Works’ underlying purpose is enriching the lives of our customer-owners in the Greater Holland area by providing not only reliable and economical electric, water, and wastewater treatment services but maintaining our environmental responsibility to our community.

We are located in West Michigan overlooking the beautiful Lake Michigan shoreline, in one of Michigan's fastest growing industrial and residential areas servicing approximately 75,000 members of the community.

The Holland Board of Public Works is a community-owned enterprise providing utility services to the Holland area. We are committed to improving the economic and environmental quality of the community in partnership with our customers, providing reliable services at the lowest rates achievable through innovation, efficiency, and professional operations.

Commitment. . .

We are a progressive and innovative utility with over 180 employees of diverse background working together to provide the Holland area with reliable and low cost utility services while developing and implementing methods to preserving the environment. Our staff provides a team building atmosphere within the organization and the community, utilizing the richness of our diverse employees. We continue to move forward, growing in services while maintaining the high expectations that our valued customers have come to expect. We are an active and proud member of the Holland community and are committed to providing the services of an ever growing and changing population.

Future. . .

We are continuously redefining ourselves and exploring other services that become an asset to the entire community. We continue to explore new technological fields that will provide a future service to our community. We are on the forefront in our development of various support services that will assist in meeting our responsibilities to the community. Our GIS services provide detailed descriptions of various utility delivery systems that assist our employees in new developing areas and, in addition, we have constructed a 17- mile fiber optic backbone to support not only internal communication links between all HBPW facilities but the communities various public services such as local hospitals, schools and local governmental agencies.
